Hilda 'Shorty' Carpenter Luhrs

    Hilda “Shorty” Carpenter Luhrs of Milford, Pa., passed away on Dec. 12, 2018, in Milford. She was 95.
    Daughter of the late, Gaylord and Louise Carpenter, she was born Nov. 16, 1923, in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
    Shorty was a retired nurse at St. Francis Hospital. Along with her late husband, Albert, she was a co-founder of Luhrs True Value.
    She was an active member of the Episcopal Church and the Altar Guild throughout her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an avid baseball fan, a great friend, and loved the life she created in Milford.
    She leaves behind her children; Susan Blanco and her husband, Joseph, of Knoxville, Tenn., Thomas Luhrs and his wife, Roxanne, of Milford, James Luhrs and his wife, Wendy, of Milford, and Douglas Luhrs and his wife, Penney, of Milford; sister, Grace Hamor of Port Jervis, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Blanco, Marissa Luhrs, Erin Rio, Ashley Spears, Dustin Luhrs, Jeffery Luhrs, Kevin Luhrs, Whitney Luhrs, Rhea Luhrs, Connor Luhrs, and Dana Wedinger; and eight beloved great-grandchildren.
    She is predeceased by her husband, Albert Luhrs; and sisters, Ester Scott and Marge Hastings.
    Visitation was held at Stroyan Funeral Home in Milford on Sunday, Dec. 16. Funeral services were held Dec. 17 at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Milford with the Rev. Van A. Bankston officiating.
