Jacob M. Pennings

    Jacob M. Pennings, 86, of Milford, Pa., formerly of Warwick, N.Y., died on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at Milford Senior Care, Milford.

    Son of the late Simon Petrus and Maria (Van Leewen) Pennings, he was born in Holland.

    He grew up in a large family on a dairy farm. In 1947 he immigrated to the United States and eventually started his own dairy in Warwick.

    In 1957 he married Nell Verkleij. Together they raised a family and worked the land for 36 years. In 1986 he and Nell retired and settled in Milford.

    For almost another 14 years he continued to work on a dairy farm, first for one son and then for the other. Finally, he retired fully, spending summers tending his huge vegetable garden and fruit trees.

    Survivors include his brothers, Simon, Peter, and William; sister, Johanna; four children, Monique McCutcheon and her husband, Dennis, of Gardiner, N.Y., Paul Pennings and his wife, Denise, of Greenville, N.Y., Yvonne Merrill and her husband, Everett, of Milford, and Bruce Pennings and his wife, Christina, of Middletown; and eight grandchildren.

    He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Nell.

    Friends may call at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, Pa., on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, on Friday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Gregory Kelly officiating. Burial will take place in Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township.
