James Okey Williams
James Okey Williams, a Dingmans Ferry, Pa., resident for 17 years, formerly of Briarwood, Queens, N.Y., died Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. He was 60.
Son of the late Okey and Addie (Mays) Williams, he was born Aug. 25, 1955, in Brooklyn. He was a train conductor for the Long Island Railroad until his retirement in 2012.
Survivors include his wife, Della J. Williams, whom he married on June 25, 2005.
He was a member of Faith Christian Outreach Center in Lords Valley, where he and his wife served as Deacons for many years. Known as "Big Jim, the Gentle Giant," he loved anything having to do with trains. His favorite holiday was Christmas. He loved food and grilling, his specialties being barbecue ribs, teriyaki turkey wings and pot pies. Most important to him, however, was that he loved and faithfully served God with all his heart.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Williams of New York, N.Y., and Tinisha K. Franklin of Virginia; three sons, James Williams Jr. of the Bronx, Ramone J. Williams of Dingmans Ferry, and Arnell W. Franklin Jr. of New York, N.Y.; two sisters, Patricia Williams of Brooklyn and Florrie Braxton of Queens; and three grandchildren, James “L.J.” Williams of the Bronx, Maya C. Gill of Virginia, and Aniyah M. Franklin of Brooklyn.
Visitation was held July 16 at Faith Christian Outreach Center. The funeral followed at the church with Pastor Mike Stevenson officiating. Burial was in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale.
