Jay Russell Rose of Paupack

Jay Russell Rose of Paupack, Pa., died on Saturday, April 9, 2016, following a brief illness. He was 72.
Son of the late Russell and Mary McHale Rose, of Hawley, Pa., he was born on July 8, 1943, in Philadelphia.
He graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School in North Tarrytown, N.Y., in 1961 and earned a bachelor's degree at Franklin and Marshall College in 1965. He went on to graduate from Villanova University School of Law in 1968 with a Juris Doctor degree as a member of the Order of the Coif honor society. He was also an editor of the Villanova Law Review.
He practiced law for over 40 years at Beecher, Wagner, Rose and Klemeyer in Milford, Pa., and served as Pike County Solicitor as well as solicitor for Lackawaxen Township. He was a member of the Pike County Bar Association, serving as president in 1985. He was also a member of the Pike County Republican Committee, where he was an active supporter behind the scenes of many campaigns. In 2007, he was appointed Pike County Magisterial District Judge, a position he held until his retirement in 2013.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and Philadelphia sports fan. He spent countless hours in the woods and on the waters of Pike and Wayne counties and was a member of the Tall Oaks Hunting Club in Blooming Grove, Pa. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandson compete on the local trails, fields and courts, and seemed to never tire of teaching kids and friends to waterski.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Jo-Ann Mitchell Rose of Paupack; his children, Peter Rose and his partner, Andrea Filone, of Hawley, Anne Marie Scolnick and her husband, Todd, of New York, N.Y., Kristen Kopko and her husband, Pete, of Mercersburg, Pa., and Brian Rose of Paupack; his grandchildren, Tyler Rose, Connor Scolnick, and Kate and Nora Kopko; and his sister, Mary Anne Teeter and her husband, Dick Teeter, of Hawley.
Visitation was held April 12 at Teeters’ East Chapel, Hawley. A Funeral Mass was held on April 13 at BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, Hawley, with Monsignor Joseph P. Kelly officiating. Burial was inPine Grove Cemetery, Paupack.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jay Russell Rose Memorial Scholarship to be awarded annually to a graduating senior at Wallenpaupack Area High School, c/o Wayne Bank, 63 Welwood Ave., Hawley, PA 18428.
