    John B. Mason of Matamoras died on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at his home. He was 91.

    Son of John B. and Freda Schock Mason, he was born on March 24, 1924, in Sparrowbush.

    He served during World War II with the U.S. Navy, from 1943 to 1946. In 2012 he was a participant in the US Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

    He was a retired carpenter and worked with Union Local #253, Hackensack, N,J.

    He was a member and past master of the Milford Lodge of Masons #752 and a member of the Port Jervis Lodge of Masons #328, the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks #645, B.P.O.E., the Roosa-Fleming VFW Post #161, and Port Jervis and the Marsch-Kellogg VFW Post, Milford. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Matamoras Rod and Gun Club and the Lost Camp Hunting Club, Westfall.

    Survivors include his wife, Madeline Ann Soletro, at home; four sons, John B. Mason Jr. and his wife, Tria, of Milford, Scott Mason and his wife, Robin, of Andover, N.J., Gary Mason of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jay Mason and his wife, Jenine, of Wantage, N.J.; two sisters, Freda Moore and her husband, Harold, of Rio, N.Y., and Andre Zelno and her husband, Ralph, of Cahoonzie, N.Y.; grandchildren, Adam Mason and his wife, Brynn, Sean Mason and his wife, Jess, Jeffrey, Jacqueline, Jennifer, Ryan, Anthony, William and Rebecca; two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Makayla; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was pre-deceased by his two brothers, Conrad “Bud” Mason and Douglas Mason.

    Visitation was held May 8 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis. Masonic and Elks services were held May 8 at the funeral home. Funeral services were held May 9 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Cassidy officiating. Interment followed at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, with military honors.
