John J. Meier

John J. Meier of Matamoras, Pa., died on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 78. Son of the late Fredrick and Florence (Young) Meier, he was born June 5, 1937, in Newark, N.J. Survivors include his nieces and nephew, Daughters; Jill Meier, June Mills and Diane Emery; sons, John Maher, Edward Maher, and Fredrick Maher; 11 grandchildren, Monique Heidenberg, Melissa Maher, Sara Rowland, James Maher, Mason Maher, Justin Maher, Macy Maher, Amber Maher, Victoria Maher, John Maher, and James Mills; and three great-grandchildren, Sasha Heidenberg, Tianna Maher, and Za'Daiyah Rosado. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a dishwasher for many years at Mount Haven. The love, caring and giving he shared with his family was always genuinely sincere and admired by others. He will be dearly missed but we know he's at peace. Internment took place privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by the Oliver Shifler & Scotchlas Funeral Home in Carbondale, Pa.
