Norman D. Krause
Norman D. Krause of Matamoras, Pa., died on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 89.
Son of Frank L. and Katherine Dorer Krause, He was born on Aug. 15, 1927, in Matamoras.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Laura J. Aumick Krause, at home; sons, Richard Krause and his wife, Kathy, of Syracuse, N.Y., David Krause and his wife, Sharon Kelly Krause, of Matamoras, and Steven C. Krause of Milford, Pa.; hgrandchildren, Katie Krause and Megan Krause, both of Matamoras, Jennifer Krause Lawless and her husband, Chris, of Tampa, Fla., Jillian Krause and her husband, Derek, of Ruskin, Fla., and David Jr. of Matamoras; great-grandchildren, Clara and Jacob Lawless; sister-in-law, Rayola Warne and her husband, William, of Florida; sister-in-law, June Losee of Matamoras; and several nieces and nephews.
He proudly served in the U.S. Merchant Marines at the end of World War II and was honorable discharged in December 1946 from the U.S. Coast Guard. He was drafted into the Army in 1950 during the Korean War, serving overseas until his discharge in August 1952. He continued to serve five years with the Reserves and was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard (Homeland Security).
He retired as General Supervisor of Substations for Orange & Rockland Utilities in Monroe, N.Y. In retirement he drove bus for Indian Head Canoes in the summer. He also drove bus for the Delaware Valley School District, Campbell Bus Co., and Krise Bus.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Matamoras. He was a Sunday School teacher at the Dutch Reform Church in Port Jervis, N.Y., for 14 years. He served as vice president for the Borough of Matamoras Council. He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks #645, B.P.O.E.; a life member and past-commander of Rosa-Fleming V.F.W. #161, Port Jervis; and a Cub Scout Master of Pack #77 for 12 years.
He was the oldest member and past-chief of the Matamoras Fire Department. In his earlier years with the fire department, he installed the fire alarm system throughout the borough of Matamoras. Although it is no longer in service, it was used for many years. He was also a life member of the American Legion, Milford. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Milford Lodge of Masons #344, F&AM.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and a member of the Mill Rift Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed playing golf in his spare time.
Services were private. Interment with military honors was at Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras.
