Norman Edgar Moon of Ocala, Fl., and formally of Port Jervis, NY, and Matamoras, Pa., died on January 19, 2024, in The Villages, Fl. surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 30, 1935, to the late George H. Moon and the late Iris Mae Cole Moon.

He is survived by his wife Jeannette P. Boersma Moon; his daughters Felecia Moon, Wendy Dibble and her husband Ronald Dibble; his granddaughter Norma Jean Martine, whom he was so very proud of; his brother Ronald Moon (Carol); sister in law Roslyn Moon; and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers William and George L. Moon, and stepson Gordon A. Hayes.

Norman was the owner/operator of Norman’s Hairstylist in Port Jervis, NY, for 56 years, a place where friends and family would gather, tell stories, jokes or catch up on the latest news and grab a cup of coffee. All while having their hair styled with a smile.

He was very proud of his shop and enjoyed all who came through the door.

His ancestry in Port Jervis dates back to 1692, when Jacob Leur Kuykendall moved from Esopus, NY, to the then Machackemach (Port Jervis) and settled in what is now the central part of the city.

Norman was a member of the Hope Evangelical Free Church, Matamoras, Pa., for 53 years, and served as trustee for two years and was in the church choir. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne and U.S. Training Center at Ft Knox (1955-1957), then joined the reserves post his enlistment.

He was a graduate of Matamoras High School in 1954 with awards in dramatics, music and industrial arts. He went to Central Academy of Beauty Culture in 1955, M. Louis Hair Design Institute (1955), Robert Fiance’ Hair Design Institute (1962), Orange County BOCES for electronics (1975), and Kahn School of Realtors (1983).

Norman had many hobbies and enjoyed camping, boating, water skiing, fishing with his cousins up in Canada, hunting and playing golf, just to name a few.

Norman was very active in the Masonic Lodge.

Norman loved family gatherings and celebrating holidays together. There was no greater love than his family.

Dad... you are going to be so missed. Holiday dinners won’t be the same without your stuffed oysters or watching you carve the meat to perfection. Your family stories you would tell us. Hearing you singing your favorite songs. There is so much of your presence that will be missed.
