Werner Paul Biskupek of Hawley, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was 82.
Son of the late Alfred and Rosa (Kowaczek) Biskupek, he was born July 24, 1934, in Bremen, Germany.
He played soccer for many years while living in Germany and carried the love of it to America, watching it every chance he had.
He worked as a machinist at Port Jervis Sheet Metal prior to his retirement in 1996. Formerly of Milford, Pa., and Tafton, Pa., he had been a Hawley resident for six years.
He was a member of Matamoras Rod and Gun Club and loved to tinker. In his younger years he was an avid fisherman and boater, especially on the ocean.
He spent many years vacationing with his family on the Jersey shore every summer until he bought a vacation spot in Lake Adventure in Lords Valley. They also visited many states throughout the years.
A very hard-working and caring man, he always provided for and took good care of his family. He played a huge role in his grandson's life and adored him. He would always sing German nursery rhymes and lullabies to his grandson Dale, just as he did for his daughter Alison as she was growing up.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rosemary (Smith) Biskupek; daughter, Alison McConnell of Lakeville, Pa.; grandson, Dale McConnell of Lakeville; sisters, Ilse Guscioria of Trenton, N.J., and Helene Biskupek of West New York, N.J.; and brother, Gunther Biskupek of New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Biskupek, and a sister, Ursula Lawrence.
A Memorial Service will be held at noon on Saturday, March 4, at Paupack United Methodist Church, Route 507, Paupack, Pa. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
Memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
