Another busy month for firefighters

DINGMAN — Township Fire Chief Bill Mikulak reported that March was very busy. He told the supervisors Tuesday that there has been an increase in occupied home structure fires, some related to homes that were unoccupied all winter but now have owners coming up and chimneys in need of cleaning. He told the supervisors one fire was started while the home was being “baby sat” and household items had been stored behind their wood burning stove and caught fire when the stove was put into use. “Our EMS (Emergency Medical Services) were busy every day this past month.” Additionally, Mikulak said the repair work which is soon to begin on the bridge over Sawmill Creek on Log Tavern Road is being held up because of Met Ed. “Met Ed has to put in some utility poles and change the wiring around before any work can begin.” There will be a flashing yellow traffic light in place when the bridge becomes a one lane only roadway. He said the fire department will be able to control the traffic light if necessary for fire emergencies.
