Shohola — The case of a young pit bull that bit singer Vanessa Carlton on May 2 will be going to court. Dog owner Ben Teichberg said Bella has been surrendered to a professional handler, who works with Save The Orphan Pets in Hope, N.J. A Web site for the dog - justiceforbella.net - has been created by the group. Teichberg said some 2,500 people have expressed support and money from people nationwide has been raised to fund an attorney. Carlton, writing on her Facebook page on May 8, described a frightening attack and her rescue by a passing family in their car. She wrote that she “dreamed” of some rehabilitation for the dog, but failing that “then this dog is en route to a shelter where it will fail an aggression test and then be put down.” A local police officer, who has been bitten many times in three decades, said he never heard of another dangerous dog complaint locally. “The dog just bit the wrong person,” he said. No court date has been set.
