MILFORD — With the critical presidential primary campaign in its final weekend, former President Bill Clinton came to Milford Sunday afternoon. After pressing the flesh along Broad Street and a stop at the Milford Diner, Clinton and his Secret Service entourage pressed on, walking several blocks before coming into the sight of a waiting crowd assembled at the Linda Sanicola residence at Fourth and East High streets. The crowd of about 300 persons broke into cheers and applause, which Clinton recognized as he cut across a neighbor’s yard to enter the rear of the Sanicola residence. Several minutes later and about an hour before the scheduled 4:15 p.m. appearance, applause began again as Clinton appeared on the front porch, under a huge “Hillary” banner. He spoke about campaign topics for about 45 minutes, concluding with a personal endorsement of Senator Clinton. “She’s the best candidate I’ve ever had a chance to support; and I would support her even if I were not married to her.” He went on to agree with his daughter Chelsea, who he said believes that Hillary “would make a better President than I did.” But he won applause recalling, “I may not have been the world’s best politician, but I did fairly well.” Clinton’s visit to Milford was the first by any US President since John F. Kennedy came to dedicate Grey Towers for the US Forest Service in 1963. One woman, who arrived late and missed the appearance, later asked to see a photographer’s digital image. “I just needed to know he was really here,” she said.
