Borough wants theater roof done now
MILFORD Borough officials are worried that the historic Milford Theater may not survive long enough to be restored. A local preservation group is attempting to purchase the East Catharine Street structure, but a large leak in the roof has gone unrepaired and is endangering the theater, Borough Council President Matt Osterberg said. “A hole in the roof will destroy the building,” he said Monday. The council in 2008 declared the building under “demolition by neglect,” but has granted extensions on fines against owner Joseph Farruggio while financing for the property sale was ongoing. Another extension has been requested, but Osterberg insisted that Farruggio be told that repairs “have to be done immediately, not next month.” The council approved a letter requiring repairs be begun by May 15 and completed by June 1.
