Borough will allow sidewalk sandwich signs
MILFORD Despite strict historic district signage rules, recession- stunned business district merchants are going to be allowed some use of sidewalk sandwich board signs. A joint meeting of the borough council and planning commission tentatively decided the issue at a Tuesday work session, borough council vice-chair Bo Fean said. Fean said the Milford Business Council will be asked to create specifications for the signs, which will be allowed on private property, porches and sidewalks, as long as a 5’ pedestrian right of way is maintained. Permits, issued by the borough code enforcement officer, will be required, with a fee of up to $25. Fean said the borough’s architectural review board will not be asked to regulate these signs, although they do review all other business district signs. Fean said the borough’s planning consultant, Carson Helfrich will prepare ordinance language which, after publication, will be voted upon by the council. He hoped the measure would be completed next month.
