MILFORD — What do Bill Gates, Michael Dell, and Michael Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, all have in common? These hugely successful entrepreneurs all started their businesses as teenagers. Pike County Public Library, the Junior Achievement Program, Dime Bank, and the local business community are partnering to bring an exciting program, JA Be Entrepreneurial, to Pike County for the first time. The program was originally designed for high school students, but will be open to both teens and adults who are interested in learning about how to start a business and other aspects of entrepreneurship. This program is completely free to participants and is a great opportunity for teens and adults to see that they have the ability to succeed in the business world even at a young age with the skills they already possess, as well as the knowledge they will acquire through this program. Each session will be led by a business owner in Pike County who will lend expertise on different topics such as competitive advantages in business, the role of ethics in a company, writing business plans, and much more. The speakers will give advice, direction, and guidance to those in the program to show them that they can succeed in business. Through interactive classroom activities, participants will develop their own products and services throughout the weeks, culminating in a presentation to business professionals during the last session. Those interested in this free program are encouraged to sign up now by contacting the Milford Branch of PCPL in person or by calling 570-296-8211. The program will run for seven weeks on Wednesday evenings, from March 24 through May 5, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at the Library Annex, located at 201 West Harford Street (across from the Post Office.) The library offered thank the Dime Bank for providing funding for this valuable program. Dime Bank makes many financial donations to hundreds of local and national organizations and has been supportive of PCPL efforts in the past. Many employees and board members of Dime Bank volunteer their time and support to local community projects such as this one.
