Carney tapped for committee role
Washington Rep. Christopher P. Carney (D-PA-10) has been named as the Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management. The Subcommittee includes oversight of the Emergency Management and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Reform and will continue to hold hearings to review the nation’s ability to prevent and respond to disasters. In addition, the Subcommittee is responsible for examining the activities of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and how it can promote economic development. “I am honored to be vice chair of such an effective Subcommittee, which will be relevant and useful for the people of Northeast and Central Pennsylvania,” said Carney. “Economic development is one of the great powers bestowed to Congress, and the heart of Economic Development and Transportation comes from this Subcommittee. Investing in transportation and infrastructure is one of the best ways we can foster growth and development for future generations. Chairman Oberstar has shown me that we can act as fiscal conservatives and invest wisely; his leadership on these issues has been second to none.” “I chose Rep. Carney to become Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, because I have been impressed by the leadership he has demonstrated since he became a member of the Full Committee in January,” said Rep. James L. Oberstar (Minn.), Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. “Rep. Carney has a strong work ethic and has quickly gotten up to speed on a variety of issues that the T&I Committee has worked on this year. I know that Rep. Carney will make many important contributions to the Committee in the years to come.”
