MILFORD — Exit signs from Clarion Safety Systems have been selected by Buildings Magazine for its June, Editors’ Choice list of the Top 100 products. The UL 924 Exit signs, which meet all Underwriters Laboratories requirements for Exit signs, are the only ones in the industry to carry a 35-year guarantee. The signs provide significant energy and maintenance savings over their 35-year life - $4,800 just for one sign, compared to a typical electrical Exit sign. That life cycle is made possible because the Exit Sign is made with patented, safety-grade Photoluminescent Technology, a passive technology that consumes no electricity, needs no special wiring and has no internal components - wires, batteries, bulbs, circuit boards, etc. - that could fail. The 35-year Exit Sign also qualifies as a Renewable Energy Solution and offers customers the potential for multiple LEED Green Building Credits. The photoluminescent material absorbs and stores existing light from its surroundings, then releases the stored light energy the instant light is dimmed or extinguished. The sign will recharge itself automatically when light is restored. “This breakthrough in technology will benefit our customers in many ways,” said Geoffrey Peckham, president and owner of Clarion Safety Systems. “The financial savings are real and measurable, as are the environmental benefits that come from replacing an electrical product with a passive technology that is so safe it can be used in toys for young children. But the most significant benefit is enhanced life safety; photoluminescent technology is fail-safe when it’s installed correctly. For 35 years you never have to worry about parts that fail, backup systems that fail, signs that fail.” The signs are suitable for either retrofits or new construction. The savings are even greater in new construction, $4,900 /per sign /over 35 years, because no electrical wiring and no backup wiring is needed for the sign.
