Classrooms on hold

MILFORD - Spaces for horses are one thing, but township officials want to know more about classroom spaces. The GAIT theraputic riding program on Monday received Milford Township’s okay to rebuild their barn off Foster Hill Road that was destroyed by fire in September, but not to have people occupy the building for classroom use. A parking plan had been an early red-flag for neighbors, concerned about the traffic that facility produces, The road draws considerable traffic from the nearby Malibu Ranch dude ranch and GAIT is also building a new indoor riding arena, which could bring additional volume. The Supervisors reviewed and okayed plans for a new parking lot, but the addition of classroom spaces held up final approval. Indoor classroom space was planned in the new pole structure, but the supervisors had not received a report from the township sewage officer. That report is expected to be on hand for the Nov. 7 meeting. “They can rebuild the barn, but if it’s to be occupied, it has to be built to code,” said township Secretary-Treasurer, Viola Canouse. In other business, township and borough officials began talking about who would pay for improvements to borough stormwater swales, beneath the new and larger culvert pipes that the township is installing upgrade on the Chippy Cole Road. In other upcoming business in November, Canouse said the township would also be presenting the 2006 budget on Nov. 7.
