Consignment store is more than expected

Branchville, N.J. — Abercrombie, Liz Claiborne, Old Navy, Laura Ashley, Express and Limited Too are just a few of the name brands to be found at Children’s Quality Consignments at 6 Main Street here. And don’t let the name fool you. This store is hardly “just for children.“ It’s a consignment store with top quality clothing and gifts for the entire family. The store was born 17 years ago in Sussex. It moved several times before landing at 6 Main Street, and where Lauri Malefyt came into play. The now 44-year-old Bergen County native had quickly transformed into a Sussex County gal when she and her husband, Tom, moved to Wantage 20 years ago. “I immediately loved the area,” she said. Another love she had was for the name brand clothes like the ones she’d worn working as a secretary before her children Courtney and Chelsea were born. She thought these brand name tastes were a thing of the past until she stumbled upon the world of consignment stores. “I couldn’t believe it! Why would you, especially with gas prices what they are now, drive all the way to the mall when you can find brand names and high quality at unbelievable prices right here?” Malefyt loved the idea so much that she started working at a local consignment shop. When its owner was about to get out of the business and explore other business options, Malefyt jumped at the opportunity and bought the business. She offers a 50/50 split with consigners, and began taking fall and winter clothing on Aug.4. “Sometimes it‘s hard being a businesswoman and a mom, but I do my best.” “Sussex County is filled with really nice people and it‘s a pleasure to do business here.” Call 973-948-7775 for information and the store’s fall season days and hours schedule.
