Court decides on Schor for school board seat vacancy

MILFORD — Susan Schor was named last Thursday to fill a vacancy on the Delaware Valley Board of Education. Acting on petition request based on the school board’s failure to fill the vacancy within the 30-day window prescribed by state law, Judge Gregory Chelak transmitted his one-paragraph decision shortly before noon on Oct. 23. She took her board seat at that evening’s board of education meeting. Schor finished sixth in 2007 race for five board seats, falling 157 votes short. In an Oct. 22 testimony before Chelak at the petition hearing, Schor described herself as a frequent volunteer in school with “a passion for the Delaware Valley School District.” A professional realtor, she said she has been seeing a lot of people losing their homes and is sensitive to the issue of taxes in difficult times. Regarding published charges following the Oct. 2 interviews of seven candidates, board members and school officials said there were no Sunshine Law violations in that interview process. Senior serving member Sue Casey said the interviews (done in unannounced closed session) were done as they had been done a number of times in past. The legal issues had “never crossed our minds ... We all had good intentions.” However, “going forward, it will not happen again,” she added.
