Delaware River search comes up empty

Port Jervis firefighters are pictured scanning the Delaware from the Matamoras-Port Jervis bridge late last Saturday, while Westfall firefighters searched the waters below. Shortly after 10:20 p.m. on May 9, a call was placed to the Matamoras Fire Department reporting that a person was possibly jumping from the bridge. Rescue units from Matamoras, MillRift, Westfall, Sparrowbush, and Port Jervis responded and launched a nearly hour-long search from the West End Beach boat launch. According to Port Jervis Fire Department incident commander Jeff Rhoads, the search of the water surrounding the bridge was called off, to be resumed the following morning when daylight could aid the rescuers. The follow-up search found nothing. Kathryn Braisted
