Dingman honored at Allegheny College
MEADVILLE Rachel L. Dingman, of Milford, daughter of Clarence E. and Caryn S. Dingman, graduated from Allegheny College on May 11. A graduate of Delaware Valley High School, Dingman received a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and psychology. Prior to Commencement, Dingman was honored with two distinctive awards: the Helping Hand Award and the Lynn Pyle Memorial Prize. The Helping Hand Award, which was inspired by Brian Grogan, class of 1999, is presented annually at the Allegheny College Leadership Banquet in recognition of a student who exemplifies the ideals by which Grogan lived his life: leadership, commitment, spirituality, respect for others and personal sacrifice. The Lynn Pyle Memorial Prize, established by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph D. Pyle of Pittsburgh, Pa., is awarded annually to a female student who has contributed to the college community by continuing participation in a variety of college activities. The names of the recipients are recorded on a plaque that is permanently installed in the college’s historic Brooks Hall. While at Allegheny, Dingman was involved in Kappa Alpha Theta, Allegheny Ambassadors, Amnesty International, Allegheny Gay Pride, Religious Life Council, Allegheny Peace Coalition and women’s rugby. She also completed an experiential learning term and served as a campus tour guide. Allegheny College is a nationally recognized, selective college of the liberal arts and sciences in northwestern Pennsylvania. It is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 100 liberal arts colleges in the country,
