DV grad wins international scholarship

PHILADELPHIA Delaware Valley High School class of 2009 graduate Dustin Balton arrived at Philadelphia University on Aug. 20 after receiving the 2009-10 International Cinematographers Guild (ICG) scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to just a few children around the world of ICG members. Dustin’s father Bruce worked for over 30 years in the film and TV business, most recently operating camera cranes and jibs, equipment used to get sweeping, elevated camera angles. Though Dustin is studying architectural engineering in the honors program at Philadelphia University, he has worked with his dad and other family members as a camera jib assistant. His credits include Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” the documentaries “Gettysburg: Three Days of Destiny” and “Throw it Down,” a National Geographic special on the human genome project, and a James Taylor concert. Dustin has a passion for still photography and his work has appeared in publications throughout the tri-state area. While attending Delaware Valley he was a member of the Odyssey of the Mind structure team that received fourth place at World Finals, the best any structure team in the district has ever placed. Dustin’s mom, Terry, coaches the team. An Advanced Placement Scholar, Dustin played drums in the DV band, orchestra and pit band. He was the treasurer of the Friends of the Children’s Room of Pike County Public Library. Dustin is a lifelong resident of Dingman Township.
