DV Student Council dedicates their own outdoor classroom

WESTFALL On Friday, July 27, the Delaware Valley High School’s Student Council formally introduced their “Outdoor Classroom,” and dedicated it to the school in commemoration of its 50th anniversary. The Classroom was a project taken on single-handedly by the council during this past school year, led by President Nick Troiano and Vice President and project chairperson Nick Tomaskovic. With a budget under just $8,000, the student government managed to plan, propose, and finally construct their largest undertaking to date. Complete with round tables, benches and a set of bleachers to seat 60, the classroom will be an alternative place for students to learn, in an entirely new environment. When proposed via the High School’s student newspaper, The Del.Aware, the outdoor classroom met with student and faculty enthusiasm. With its completion, classes, clubs and even sports teams can begin to make use of the classroom as early as Aug. 27. Present at Friday’s noon ceremony were former and current Student Council members, School Board President John Wroblewski, and a few onlookers from the school office. Additionally, custodial staff members Dan Conklin and Joe Bruchner were recognized for their efforts in the preparation work. As the new year’s Council President Brian Mattos was presented with the dedication plaque, former President Troiano gave his last “thank you” speech, and cut the red ribbon for a new era of learning.
