DVES students win President's Awards for Educational Excellence

WESTFALL Delaware Valley Elementary School is proud to announce presidential award recipients for DVES School Year 2007- 2008. Awards were presented at a special ceremony held in the school’s gymnasium on June 11th. This was followed by a reception held in the DVES cafeteria. President’s Awards for Educational Excellence were awarded to DVES sixth graders who achieved the high academic requirements required to be maintained over a specified time period. Criteria specified on the U.S. Department of Education’s website states that students are to earn a grade point average of 90 on a 100 point scale, (an A on a letter scale or a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale), not counting K-3, through the fall semester of their exiting elementary school grade. In addition, they must achieve high scores in reading or math on state tests and/or receive recommendations, supported by tangible documentation by a teacher and one other staff member based on outstanding achievement in the school’s core curriculum subjects, such as English, mathematics, science, history, geography, art, and foreign language. Awards for Volunteer Service Awards were received by DVES students who met the requirements for Gold, Silver or Bronze recognition.
