HAWLEY — Penn State Extension in Wayne and Pike County will be holding an educational program for horse owners and others involved in the horse industry on consecutive Mondays from March 3 through April 7. Classes will be held at the PPL Lake Wallenpaupack Environmental Center from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM each night. “Our Horse Owners School is an effort to educate horse owners about a variety of topics and provides a forum for horse owners to exchange information with each other,” says Dave Messersmith, Extension Educator. During the four night program, participants will learn a variety of topics ranging from equine vaccination and basic veterinary care to buying quality hay for your horse and horse trailering basics. The program will conclude on April 7 with a barn visit to a newly constructed “greenhouse barn” that is being used for therapeutic riding. Whether you’re a new horse owner, or an “old pro” you’ll learn how to keep your horses healthy and happy and make ownership more enjoyable The cost of the program is $25 per person which includes refreshments and course materials. Those attending all four sessions will receive a Penn State Certificate of Completion and recognition during the graduation ceremony on March 17.
