Family weekend scheduled at ESU
Fall Festival - get together brings families together EAST STROUDSBURG East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s annual Family Weekend will take place Sept. 24 through Sept. 26. The weekend is a series of events designed to welcome current students and their families and to acquaint them with the campus and surrounding community. This year’s theme is “ESU’s Family Fall Festival 2010.” The event is open to the general public at no cost unless otherwise noted below. The schedule of events for Family Weekend 2010 is as follows: Friday, Sept. 24 7 p.m. Eduardo Tango Trio Concert, Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall: This event features a world-renowned ensemble based in Buenos Aires playing traditional and innovative Argentine tango music. Saturday, Sept.25 9 a.m. - 10:20 a.m. Reception and registration, Keystone Room 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Classical Car Show and Rides, Mitterling Athletic Field: Monroe County Cruisers Car Club presents a classic cars on ESU’s baseball field, weather permitting. Proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated in the university’s name to the Cancer Society and Relay for Life. The car show is free to attend. 10:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Welcome & Opening Remarks, Keystone Room: This event will feature remarks from the ESU President Robert J. Dillman, and from Presidents of ESU’s Student Senate and Residence Hall Association. 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Farmer’s Market and Luncheon*, Dansbury Commons: Cost of lunch is $7 per person. 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Juggernaut String Band, Dansbury Commons: Uncle Pete Taney and Juggernaut play a blend of classical rock, bluegrass, and Mardi Gras party tunes with their own originals they call “Rockfolk.” Enjoy a variety of instruments from the fiddle and banjo to a rubboard and spoons. They also play bass and drums. 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Family Photos, Dansbury Common: Family photos will offer a memento to ESU families at no cost. Visitors may pose with friendly scarecrows for a family photo. The photo will be sent to their home e-mail accounts within a few days. 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. ESU Band Rehearsal, Rehearsal Quad, located near the center of campus:.Rehearsal is open to the general public and will be a pre-game concert. After the pre-game rehearsal, the band will march to the ESU “Fan Zone” and play a couple selections before leading the fans into the stadium. 11 a.m. Homemade Pie Contest, Dansbury Commons: Bring your family’s homemade pie to be judged in the contest. 11:30 a.m. Build Your Own Aquarium*, University Center: With ESU e-card, students will receive one aquarium free additional aquariums with cost $5 to purchase. 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Children’s Arts and Crafts, University Center Courtyard: The arts and crafts are targeted towards younger children that are attending Family Weekend. 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Football Game: Warriors vs. West Chester*, Eiler-Martin Stadium: Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for children (12 and under) and Senior Citizens (65 and older). 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Dinner*, Dansbury Commons and Center Court: Cost is $7 per person. 5:30 p.m. Men’s Soccer Game: Warriors vs. Millersville*, Eiler-Martin Stadium: Tickets are $6 for general admission and $3.00 for children 7 p.m. Bingo, Dansbury Commons: Family Weekend Bingo Reunion will be open to any ESU student and/or parent. There will be fantastic prizes featuring many local businessesgift cards, gift certificates, ESU items etc. 7:30 p.m. Women’s Soccer Game: Warriors vs. Millersville*, Eiler-Martin Stadium: Tickets are $6 for general admission and $3 for children. 8 p.m. Outdoor Movie: Iron Man, On the university’s QUAD: Iron Man will be shown on a large projector screen. Participants are welcome to bring their blankets and lawn chairs. 10 p.m. Late Night Karaoke, Dansbury Commons Sunday, Sept.26 9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Parent’s Association Meeting, Lower Dansbury Commons: 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Brunch*, Dansbury Commons Cost of brunch is $7 per person. ESU students, faculty and staff may use their E-cards to receive their meal rate. The event is open to the general public and is also $7. 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Family Challenge*, Stony Acres: the student-owned and operated recreational area in Marshalls Creek, offers its “challenge by choice” obstacle course for families.
