Festival bear rescued

MILFORD — The Black Bear Film Festival office has its guardian back: the black bear that stood outside the door on Mill Street is back after a bear-napping incident. The festival’s executive director, Nancy Pitcher, reported the bear missing on Tuesday, Sept. 29. It was returned the following Sunday, to the delight of film festival workers and Upper Mill residents. According to Pitcher, security guards at the Pocono Woodlands community found the bear abandoned alongside a road in the community and brought it to the dump. As luck would have it, a former film festival volunteer, Mike Long, recognized the wayward bear and returned it to its rightful place. Pitcher reports, “One of his ears is torn off and a little chunk is off his nose, but we’re happy to have him back”. This ursus americanus, it would seem, is no worse for the bear - make that wear.
