Finan talks Vo-Tech expansion

WESTFALL Delaware Valley Superintendent Dr. Candis Finan wants the district board to consider options for regaining state certification for DV’s Vo-Tech program. The program lost certification when standards called for 30 minutes more daily time in Vo-Tech classes than DV’s schedule could provide. While that problem still exists, Finan told the board on Nov. 19 that she has been meeting with neighboring and Wayne school districts considering a unified central Vo-Tech location. Joining this program would require a $309,000 annual DV contribution. Finan said a central location, not requiring a 90-minute travel time, would be difficult to find. An alternative could be a gradual expansion of DV’s existing program, and leasing or acquiring one of the existing empty warehouse spaces close to the Westfall campus. Finan said the district already has staff members certified to teach in an expanded program. She said she was hopeful of finding ways to juggle the daily schedule to find additional Vo-Tech class time. “This isn’t a decision for tonight, but it is something I want you to be thinking about,” she told the board.
