Finance expert joins hospital board

NEWTON n The North Jersey Health Care Corporation, the parent company of Newton Memorial Hospital, is excited to announce the addition of Stephen R. Tilton to its Board of Directors. Tilton is chairman and CEO of Tilton Securities, LLC, which invests and trades in Equity Markets and U.S. Government Securities. He also serves as chairman of several holding companies that invest in rental and commercial properties. Tilton is no stranger to Sussex County, having attended school at Pope John XXIII High School, where he was an All-State basketball player. He went on to play Division II basketball in Vermont and played in the NCAA Final Four in 1965 at Evansville, Ind. Tilton began his own investment company in 1967. In 1998, he sold his interests in Garban Ltd. and Garvin GuyButler Corp. His background is in finance and he will be an asset to Newton Memorial as it explores expansion opportunities. Tilton currently serves on the Boards of Lakeland Bancorp, Mountainside Hospital Foundation and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of New Jersey. A native of Sparta, Tilton resides with his wife, Judith Shumacher Tilton in Upper Montclair. Their three married children, Stephen Jr., Margaret and Kenneth also live in the Montclair area. “I consider it an honor to bring my financial expertise to the Board that governs Newton Memorial Hospital,” Tilton said.
