Katherine Haar, right, would become a pilgrim traveling to Spain for 2012 World Youth Day and a chance to see Pope Benedict XVI. Kathryn is pictured with Karen Loeschorn, center, coordinator of the youth ministries at St. Patrick’s Church and Wendy Luhrs, who helped make the Luhrs’ ACE Hardware Store available for Saturday’s pilgrimage fundraiser. Haar and Jessica VanOrden, who also hopes to be among the 27 persons locally who plan to make the pilgrimage to Madrid, worked at the refreshments stand at Saturday’s benefit yard sale. Carol Osterberg, who organized the flea market with the church’s People Helping People program, said sales receipts from the day came close to the $5,000 goal. People Helping People is a non-denominational service organization at the church, which through year-round efforts provided more than $10,000 to people in need last year, Osterberg said.
