Emergency food still needed MILFORD — This past November you might have been shocked to learn that at least 200 local families every week seek help from The Church of the Good Shepherd and St. John Ecumenical food pantry, which is housed in Milford. Now according to Father McGinty, Rector of Good Shepherd and St. John¢s Episcopalian Church, that number is up to 250 families. Mark Horner of Hornetti’s Take-Out Restaurant 305 East Harford Street, decided to step up and came up with a great idea for the Milford Food pantry, making you an offer you can’t refuse. As the cost of food and fuel reaches record highs, lines are growing longer and shelves are growing emptier at food banks and emergency feeding organizations locally and nationwide. Father Bill, as most call him, is very concerned as the cost of gas and food rises for working families here in Pike County. Bring in one non-perishable food item to Hornetti’s Restaurant located at 305 East Harford Street in Milford and get $1 off of your meal check, with a maximum table discount of $10. All food items will be donated to the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Milford. On a given Friday night, the line for food often stretches down the food pantry’s pathway onto Catherine Street. The line is regularly congested with men and women, some with small children, looking for help to make their paychecks stretch just a little farther. Many of these families are your neighbors, who have found themselves in dire straights due to a recent layoff or are struggling with the rising prices of housing, gas, electricity and food. The Ecumenical Food Pantry is not funded by the state or federal government. Suggested canned items to bring to Hornetti’s: canned fruit, 100% fruit juice, cold & hot cereals, canned tuna/fish and meat, canned chili and stew, pasta sauce, peanut butter and canned tomatoes. The Ecumenical Food Pantry provides food to those who are experiencing difficult times. The Food Pantry is open every Friday night from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Clients are referred by area churches and social service agencies in the Tri-state area (i.e., Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey).
