Forbes speaks to AARP

MILFORD - Pike County Commissioner Harry Forbes was the guest speaker at the October meeting of AARP Chapter 3455 in Milford. Forbes spoke about many programs which concern seniors including tax reform, electricity (Pike County Power and Light) and the Caremark prescription program. He also answered many questions from the members. The Caremark Prescription Program bus has recently visited Milford. Commissioner Forbes said forms will be available in November for seniors to sign up for this program. It would be in addition to your Medicare part D. This program should cover about 20% of the difference seniors pay above and beyond what Medicare part D pays for. There is no cost to seniors and if they are totally covered by a plan from a former employer, you do not need it. For information on this program call 888-4PPA-NOW. Many announcements were made at this meeting. After sixteen years of heading the Hospitality Committee, Rose Kearns will be stepping down next spring and is going to pass her cake knife to another member. “She has done a wonderful job which has been appreciated by all the members over the years,” said spokeswoman Anne Ryan. The chapter is looking for another person to fill this important position. Katherine Ruzanski is still looking for volunteers to help her for the chapter’s 25th anniversary dinner which will be held on Apr. 19, at the Erie Trackside Manor. The restaurant has been reserved, but she needs help for decorations, prizes. Call her at 570-491-2290. The Senior Center in Blooming Grove is holding their Halloween Party on Oct. 31.
