Former firefighter pleads guilty to theft

    MILFORD — A former PromisedLand volunteer firefighter plead guilty in front of President Judge Joseph F. Kameen on June 24. Stuart Ferber, 45, of Canadensis, pleaded guilty to one count of Theft by Unlawful Taking. Ferber, the former Treasurer of the fire company admitted last Thursday that between January 2004 and December 2008, he took over $96,000.00 belonging to the Promise Land Volunteer Fire Company for his personal use. The theft charge is a felony in the third degree. Ferber faces up to seven years in prison and a fine of $15,000. Pike County District Attorney Raymond Tonkin said he will seek full restitution for the fire company at sentencing. Ferber is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 19.
