Friday was a celebration of football

WESTFALL — Friday nights in the Delaware Valley School District are synonymous with football games, and accordingly, spending time with family, friends, and members of the community. You get to say hello to the neighbors and scream your lungs out during the game. Last Friday, not only did the Warriors win their season and home opener, 20-13, against the East Stroudsburg North Timber Wolves, they provided a further community gathering hub, beyond the stadium seats. A pre-game carnival, sponsored by the Delaware Valley Booster Club, was set up in a practice field next to the stadium last Friday, open to the locals from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Among groups such as Young Life, United Way and the Westfall Fire Department, Delaware Valley raised some funds of their own with a field hockey bake-sale and a football trivia table. A car donated by Helms Auto Body, scrawled with graffiti, told passerby to “Hammer the Timber Wolves.” For $1, anyone ambitious enough could take a swing at the car, which was severely dented and missing a hood by the end of the pep rally. “The idea was Coach [Keith] Olsommer’s. He wanted to promote some school spirit and get the community involved. We’re just here to have fun, not to take your money,” explained booster club member Nadeen Manzoni.
