WESTFALL n On April 26, tenth and eleventh grade English/Social Studies combination classes at Delaware Valley assembled to join in the video conference with other students across the country to report their efforts in raising funds for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation over the prior two-week period. They were joined by Congressman Joe Sestak (D-PA) from Washington, D.C. who appeared on the screen via Internet2, and commended the students for their effort. Sestak, who is also the parent of a child battling cancer, said he was honored to be a part of the event. DV students reported a successful two-week fundraising campaign. Students and their teachers, Nicole Matz, Paula Baillie, Sue Curtin, and Larry Marcial, hustled to get donations from Grand Union, Walmart, Price Chopper, and the Student Council. Sophomore Morgan Keller designed flyers. Junior Courtney Yalango got a $100 donation from her dentist. Juniors made the lemon necklaces from laminated paper lemons and string and sold them for fifty cents each. Everyone at DV wanted to help with the effort. Tammy Swinehart, Media Center Coordinator, assisted with the lamination, the DV administrative staff made the color copies, and Food Services and the Athletic Department provided containers. Lemonade stands were opened and sold lemonade for three days in the Delaware Valley Middle School, the Delaware Valley Elementary School and the Delaware Valley High School. All told, the students sold over 3,000 cups of lemonade and hundreds of necklaces. The Delaware Valley community raised a total of $1, 743 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF).
