MILFORD — Safe Haven of Pike County has been awarded a grant in the amount of $21,000 from the Allstate Foundation. The Allstate Foundation supports survivors of domestic violence and their families through resources targeted to build financial independence. It also educates the public on how hard it is for people to leave an abusive relationship without economic resources. Each day in the United States, three women die as result of domestic violence. More than one in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and more than three out of four Americans know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence. These statistics speak volumes about the impact of domestic violence, yet very few feel comfortable discussing the subject. The Allstate Foundation provided Safe Haven with a Financial Empowerment Curriculum entitled, “Moving Ahead Through Financial Management”. This program was designed to help survivors of domestic violence move from safety to long-term security.
