Grandparents' Week celebrated at preschools

MILFORD — The bond between a grandparent and grandchild is said to be second only to the parent-child bond. This bond is probably the simplest form of love that exists. By playing an active role in their grandchildren’s lives, grandparents can provide stability in the form of continued family traditions and unconditional love, both essential for early childhood development. In honor of this special relationship, local preschools celebrated Grandparents Week. From Sept. 10 to 17, preschools and child care centers celebrated their student’s grandparents. To kick off the week, on Friday September 10 Sunshine Station held a Grandparents luncheon. Over 20 grandparents were in attendance and enjoyed a special lunch with their grandchild prepared especially for them by the center. Each attending grandparent received the guide “100 Free Things to Do With Your Grandchild” provided by the Early Care and Education Coalition. The Center for Developmental Disabilities of Pike County, The Ann Street School, and Kids Play Today also invited their student’s Grandparents in to read, enjoy snack time, or participate in circle time or a craft, and experience a little piece of preschool with their grandchild. During these events the Early Care and Education Coalition offered information and tips on supporting early learning and grandparent involvement.
