NEWTON, N.J. n The Charles L. Tice Heart Center for Diagnostic Services earlier this month treated its 100th patient, a milestone Newton Memorial Hospital recognized by giving the patient a free year of cardiac rehabilitation. Jan S. Korb, of Bushkill, received a cardiac catheterization and is recovering at his Pike County home. The Charles L. Tice Heart Center for Diagnostic Services opened in Oct. 2006 as part of Newton Memorial Hospital’s continued commitment to provide community members with a wide variety of state-of-the-art services closer to home. The Heart Center provides low-risk cardiac catheterizations and diagnostic testing, enabling community members to undergo the testing closer to home rather than travel outside the county. A low-risk catheterization lab is the first step the state requires hospitals to take before they can add other services, such as angioplasties. The Charles L. Tice Heart Center is required to perform low-risk cardiac catheterization procedures per year and has two years to meet that requirement. Currently, the Heart Center is on target to meet that goal in its first year. Newton Memorial Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit offers a wide variety services focused on helping people who suffer from heart disease. The services include state-of-the-art exercise equipment and workout programs geared at improving the cardiovascular system and preventing further heart complications.
