Jet noise unsolved
Dingmans Ferry - A Federal Aviation Administration official, Mary Lynn, is skeptical of a Dingmans Ferry man’s complaints about airplane noise. “If there were planes flying that low and that loud, my phone would be ringing off the hook,” said Lynn. Dennis McMahon said jets have been waking him in the night at his Birchwoods home regularly since mid-January. Responding to our public query last week, Game Commission Officer Bob Johnson recalled hearing lots of aircraft noise in the area during his years of night time patrol in the area. “They’re right about the planes,” he said, but added that flight paths were over the area for years. “Welcome to Pike County, where we’ve dealt with intrusions from the cities in one form or another.” Lynn said there are no jet airways or travel lanes directly over the area, and thta they fly above 18,000 feet high. However, he said, two lower altitude “victor” airways do intersect near Dingmans. He could not say what kind of traffic is using them. Robert Belzer, of the North Jersey Coalition Against Aircraft Noise, said he knew of no similar complaints on the other side of the river.
