Learn about chainsaws and firewood

    MILFORD — The Delaware Highlands Conservancy and the U.S. Forest Service at Grey Towers present an ongoing series of workshops for forest landowners. The fifth woodland owner workshop, Chainsaw Safety and Fuelwood Harvesting, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Milford Experimental Forest in Milford. Dave Sienko, owner of Sienko Forest Products, has been a professional timber harvester for the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina since 2001, Game of Logging trainer since 2000, and Appalachian Logger of the Year in 2000. Presenters will also include the Pike, Monroe and Northampton County’s Service Forester of the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry. Program topics will include overviews of selecting trees to harvest from your woods, how to operate a chainsaw safely, using appropriate safety equipment, how to properly maintain a chainsaw, and felling and bucking of trees for fire wood. The program is free and open to the general public, but prior registration is required. To reserve your space at the workshop and receive directions, please register by Friday, Oct. 16.
