HARRISBURG — Five years after he played a key role in repealing Pennsylvania’s motorcycle helmet law, state Senator John N. Wozniak urged motorcycle enthusiasts to remain active to protect their rights. At a May 19 rally of the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE), Wozniak told the hundreds of motorcyclists from across the state that their choice of whether to wear a helmet is under constant pressure.“What has begun by a stroke of a pen can be taken away by a stroke of a pen,” Wozniak said. “Stay active, proactive, reasonable, and responsible.” Wozniak was the chief Senate supporter of the 2003 repeal of Pennsylvania’s motorcycle helmet law, allowing adult motorcyclists with two years’ experience to choose whether they wanted to wear a helmet while riding. Wozniak said the most important factor to the safety of motorcyclists is building the awareness of automobile and truck drivers in Pennsylvania. . Wozniak spoke in support of ABATE’s advocacy of motorcycle safety. The group has printed 10,000 lawn signs that read “Look Twice - Save A Life -Motorcycles Are Everywhere”. “Drivers need to pay attention and share the road,” Wozniak said. “Motorcycles are fuel efficient transportation at a time when Pennsylvanians need to curb gas consumption.”
