MILFORD — The Pike County Public Library is committed to transparent, comprehensive, and open communication with the public and the press, according to statement from its board of directors. The library board has recently been criticized in the media for adopting a closed meeting policy. The statement goes on to say, “Members of the press and the public always have been and always will be welcome to attend Library Board meetings, which are currently generally held on the third Monday of every month at 1 p.m., in the Community Room of the Ingeborg A. Biondo Memorial Foundation Building at 221 Broad Street, in Milford. “The Pike County Public Library is a private, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. It is not a government agency. The Government in the Sunshine Act does not apply to the library. “The Pike County Public Library Board of Directors will continue to conduct the majority of its business in open meetings to which the public and press are welcome. In accordance with principles of good nonprofit governance, it will continue to discuss personnel, legal and other sensitive matters that require frank and confidential communication among Board Members in private executive sessions. “The Pike County Public Library Board is committed to increasing public awareness of and participation in its plans for the future of the Pike County Public Library System.”
