A wet and wild cleanup is coming

BUSHKILL — When visitors are coming to celebrate your 100th birthday, you want to look good.
That's why this year's On and Under the Delaware River Clean-Up — set for Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19 — is especially important. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is part of the National Park Service (NPS), which is celebrating its centennial this year.
The event is being sponsored by the Milford-based Kittatinny Canoes (KC), the oldest and largest canoe livery operator in the country.
The cleanup of the river through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, from Milford to south to Stroudsburg, Pa., will be held on July 18. Cleanup of the Upper Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River, which extends from Milford north to Hancock, N.Y., will be held on July 19. Check-in on July 19 will begin at 8 a.m. at the Dingmans Ferry Access.
“The NPS is celebrating our Centennial anniversary this year, and this event really captures the spirit of our mission to preserve and protect some of America’s greatest treasures, including the Delaware River,” said Parks Superintendent John Donahue. “We are very fortunate to have such great volunteers, partners, community members, and local businesses to help us achieve our goals.”
Volunteers and NPS employees will paddle eight- to ten-mile sections of the river, picking up trash from shorelines, islands, and the river bottom along the way. Breakfast, dinner, canoes, life jackets, and transportation are all provided by Kittatinny Canoes.
To register for either day, call Kittatinny Canoes at 1-800-356-2852.
"This event offers a perfect opportunity for people to get out and enjoy a day on the river while contributing to a good cause," said Donahue, “A cleaner river means cleaner water for all of us.”
