Another film crew 'just driving' on the Hawk's Nest

HAWK’S NEST — The show must go on. But that doesn't mean everybody's happy about it.
Long lines of angry — or resigned — motorists accompanied the shooting of a commercial of new Volvo XC60 luxury sport SUV’s at Deerpark’s Hawk’s Nest stretch of Route 97 on New York side of the Delaware River.
The filming interrupted traffic for two days in the row in May, starting in the early morning and lasting all day. There's no easy alternate route to the Hawk's Nest.
Volvo came from Los Angeles to shoot driving scenes along the scenic route with steep cliffs on one side and a vertiginous drop to the river on the other.
Crowley said two different story lines are in the works, using both actors and Volvo’s own drivers, one involving a rain machine and the other "just driving."
“We like the scenic road, so we’re just doing a bunch of driving," he said. "It’s a very good looking road."
Alas, photos of the new models could not be used for proprietary reasons, he told the Courier.
The Town of Deerpark and the New York Department of Transportation gave Volvo permission to film on location.
New York passed legislation in 2014 increasing film tax credit to 40 percent in Hudson Valley, in order to encourage filming and thereby boost the economy. Last November the credit was increased to cover Orange and Sullivan Counties as well.
Other filmings on the Hawk's Nest include a scene last year in "Dr. Strange" and an 1989 Porsche commercial.
