Barbara Buchanan, community philanthropist, dies

MILFORD — Barbara Buchanan, community philanthropist, supporter of the arts, and President Emeritus of the Pike County Historical Society, has died.
Visitation is planned for 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 111 East High St., Milford.
She was at the time of her death a resident of Bristol Glen, an assisted living facility in Newton, N.J.
Buchanan has had a profound influence on the Milford community. She was instrumental in the authentication of the Lincoln Flag, a prized possession of the historical society that garnered worldwide fame. Stained with the blood of President Lincoln, was draped on the balustrade of the Presidential Box the night of the Lincoln's assassination.
Buchanan was also president of the Grey Towers Heritage Association; a board member of Bon Secour Hospital; a patron of the Kindred Spirits arts program; and a founder of the Greater Pike Foundation, a philanthropic organization whose motto is "For Good, Forever," among many other good works supporting the life and soul of the community. There is hardly an institution in Milford that she has not helped.
