Carol Kuniholm to speak on redistricting reform

| 05 May 2017 | 03:21

Carol Kuniholm, election reform specialist for the League of Women Voters and co-chair of Fair Districts Pennsylvania, will give a presentation on Tuesday, May 23 at 6 p.m. at the Radisson in Scranton. The topic: People Over Politics - Redistricting Reform.
Pennsylvania's current redistricting rules allow politicians to pick their voters, not voters picking who represents them. Kuniholm will discuss the history of gerrymandering in Pennsylvania, its impacts on various communities, and Fair District PA’s proposed plan for redistricting reform.
Redistricting reform is a non-partisan issue and reforms that have passed in other states have had the support of voters across party lines. Fair Districts PA hopes to create an independent citizens commission for drawing district boundaries in time for Pennsylvania’s 2020 redistricting.
Kuniholm is chair and co-founder of Fair Districts PA, a coalition of organizations and individuals working to end partisan redistricting in Pennsylvania. She is an election reform specialist on the state board of the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania. She has been an Episcopal youth pastor, a college writing instructor and founder and president of Friends of Exton Park. She lives in Exton with her husband, Whitney.
The presentation will be held at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, 700 Lackawanna Ave., Scranton, at 6 p.m.
It's a crucial time for Americans across the political spectrum to address our electoral districts, according to a release from the group. Gerrymandering is a bi-partisan issue that is diluting the value of each of our votes. Learn how you can pick your politicians and not let them pick you.
