The Cub Scouts of Pack 1003 of Dingmans Ferry celebrated the end of the 2012-13 Scouting year with a family picnic, advancement ceremony and rain gutter regatta race at Airport Park in Matamoras.

Friends and family members of the pack came together in a celebration of fellowship to eat a banquet of hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and fixings to recognize all of the achievements that the scouts have made throughout the year. Cubmaster John Bedell and Committee Chairman/Advancement Coordinator Suzi Dean acknowledged each of the different ranks (Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos) as they made their way across the bridge and moved up to the next rank for the upcoming 2013-14 Scouting year.

Pack 1003 Leaders held different Scout Olympic events throughout the park. Cub Scouts of all ranks participated and competed in the such events as the frisbee discus throw, the sock shot put and the swimming noodle javelin throw. Cubmaster Bedell recognized award winners in each event with a certificate.

The day concluded with the annual rain gutter regatta. The rain gutter regatta is a racing event for Cub Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America that is the sailboat equivalent of the pinewood derby. The boats are raced in a standard rain gutter that is 10 feet long, placed on a table or saw horses, and filled to the top with water. The boats are propelled by having the Cub Scouts blowing on the sail with no physical interaction with the boat. The first boat to reach the end of the gutter is the winner.

Cub Scout Pack 1003's schedule of summertime events include: Family Camping Weekend at Rivers Bend Campgrounds, a visit to Stewart Air National Guard Base, a tour of the Minisink Battlefield and an end of the summer celebration at Promise Land State Park.
