Day of Caring helps those who help others

MILFORD — On the annual United Way Day of Caring, volunteers travel to local non-profit human service agencies to help clean up, clear out, and refresh for the months ahead.
More importantly, friends and neighbors have a chance to give back to the community.
Matthew Osterberg, President of the United Way of Pike County, said this year's Day of Caring will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Delaware Valley High School. It begins at 9 a.m. with the annual 9/11 Memorial Blood Drive in the DV 9-10 Gym. Registration is at 8 a.m.
“The Day of Caring is a perfect example of how we contribute to the community," said Osterberg. "This event is not a fundraiser, nor a campaign, it’s simply an event that we put on to help those organizations in need. Seeing over 350 students and volunteers give back to the community on one day is truly an inspiring event. As President of the United Way I am thrilled to have seen this event grow over the years.” Every volunteer will receive a free tee shirt, a gift from The Dime Bank, Econo Pak, The Honesdale National Bank, State Representative Mike Peifer, Pike County Light and Power (Corning Natural Gas), Senator Lisa Baker, Reality Tour, Pike County Commissioner Matt Osterberg, and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.
After registration all volunteers are invited to enjoy a hearty breakfast prepared by the school's Warrior Café. The actual work of the day begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.
