Delaware Township Ambulance to hold blood drive

| 15 Jul 2015 | 12:55

The American Red Cross in conjunction with Delaware Township Volunteer Ambulance Corp will hold a Community Blood Drive on Saturday, July 18. The event will be held at the Ambulance Building located at 135 Park Road in Dingmans Ferry from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Refreshments will be provided. In addition, all presenting donors will be eligible to win a $25 gas card courtesy of Delaware Valley Emergency Services.

Every day, an average of 39,000 blood donations are needed for hospital patients across the United States. Patients need blood for ongoing and emergency medical treatments. Donated blood is used to meet the needs of area hospitals. Accident victims as well as patients with cancer, sickle cell disease, blood disorders and other illnesses receive life-saving transfusions every day.

There is no substitute for blood and volunteer donors are the only source. Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Platelets can be given safely every two weeks, up to 24 times a year. Most healthy people age 17 and older (16 with parental consent), who weigh at least 110 pounds (depending on height), are eligible to donate blood and platelets.

Blood is especially needed during the summer months.
